Gender evolution is one of the special ways that a Pokémon may evolve via. Depending on whether a Pokémon is Male or Female, (no Genderless Pokémon have split evolutions) the Pokémon it can evolve into may differ or it may not be able to evolve at all.
Note: While gender may factor into an evolution, it may also require other criteria to be met to actually evolve such as an item or certain time of day.
