In Pokémon Vortex, there are multiple methods in which Pokémon can evolve.

Unlike the main series of Pokémon games, evolutions aren't automatically triggered upon meeting their evolution requirement and instead, players can choose when to evolve their Pokémon via manually triggering it from their team view or Pokémon storage. (Players can evolve their Pokémon by clicking on the + icon under their Pokémon when in grid view or + Evolve when in list view)

Note: Mega Evolution, Gigantamax, form changes and fusions are permanent evolutions in Pokémon Vortex. It is not possible to revert such evolutions.

Evolution Methods

The various evolution methods found in Pokémon Vortex are listed below. Some Pokémon may require multiple methods and not any single one, for example, Snorunt must be Female and requires a Dawn Stone to evolve into Froslass.

Levels

The most common evolution requirement is level. When a Pokémon has reaches or passed a certain level, it may evolve, it does not have to be the exact level specified within the Pokédex. These levels could range from as little as Level 7 for a Pokémon such as Caterpie or as high as Level 64 for a Pokémon such as Zweilous.

Items

Certain Pokémon will only evolve when the player has an item which is required to evolve that Pokémon. A Fire Stone is one example of this where an Eevee will only be able to evolve into Flareon if the player has a Fire Stone to use on it.

All item evolutions are consumed upon use, they cannot be used on multiple Pokémon.

Multi-Item

Certain Pokémon require multiple items in order to evolve. For example, Meltan requires 50 or 400 Meltan Candies in order to evolve for normal or special variants, respectively.

When a Pokémon uses this evolution method, it is always because evolving Normal variant requires a different amount of the specified evolution item than evolving a special variant.

Split

There are many Pokémon which can evolve into two or more Pokémon which can be chosen by the player as long as the Pokémon being evolved has met the evolution requirements. If One or less requirements are not met, the evolution screen will specify per evolution what is required for that evolution.

The method(s) of evolving such Pokémon differs in each case. For example, Charcadet can evolve into either Armarouge or Ceruledge if Auspicious Armor or Malicious Armor was used, respectively.

Gender

Certain Pokémon will only evolve if they are a specific gender. For example, Combee will only evolve into Vespiquen if the Combee is female.

Time

Certain Pokémon will only evolve during certain time of the day. The time of day specified is relevant to the players real-world time according to their time-zone selected when creating their account. For Example, Rockruff can evolve into Lycanroc (Midday), Lycanroc (Midnight) or Lycanroc (Dusk) depending on the time of the day in the players location.

Happiness

See Happiness.

Certain Pokémon need to have specified amount of Happiness hearts in order to evolve.

Fusion

This evolution method is currently only utilised by Necrozma.

Necrozma needs to be fused with either Solgaleo or Lunala to evolve into Necrozma (Dusk Mane) or Necrozma (Dawn Wings), respectively. In addition, the players account must also own one or both of the Key Items; N Solarizer and N Lunarizer which are obtained from the Season Shop.

Fusing Necrozma with either Solgaleo or Lunala also requires both Pokémon to be of the same variant. For example, Shiny Necrozma will only fuse with Shiny Solgaleo or Shiny Lunala - mixing variants is not possible.

Once fused, the evolution Pokémon will adopt all the stats of the original Necrozma such as OT (Original Trainer), Level, Experience and Happiness. The Solgaleo/Lunala used in the fusion is then discarded similar to releasing a Pokémon and cannot be retrieved.

Sidequests

In order to evolve Pokémon from their origin-region form into a regional form, players need to be within that region in the Sidequests as an additional evolution requirement. (Passing the region does not count) It is important to note that this is only required to evolve Pokémon when the result changes the origin-region form of the Pokémon. For example, Diglett (Alolan) can always evolve into Dugtrio (Alolan) without being in the Alolan region of the Sidequests but to evolve Exeggcute into Exeggutor (Alolan) players must be in the Alolan region of Sidequests.

Attack

Some Pokemon must know a specified attack in order to be able to evolve. These Pokemon will not be able to evolve unless they have this specified attack in their current moveset. For example, Rayquaza will only evolve into Rayquaza (Mega) if it knows Dragon Ascent.

Account

Certain Pokémon and their forms are permanently linked to a player's account via a hidden attribute that is randomly assigned when the account is created.

Currently, only Spewpa to Vivillon evolutions are what utilise this evolution method. This means when a player tries to evolve a Spewpa, they will only ever be able to evolve it into one form of Vivillon that cannot be known which one until they try to evolve a Spewpa with the exception of Vivillon (Vortexball) which overrides the account-based evolution if the Spewpa is held in a Vortex Ball.

Other forms of Vivillon are available to players via trade or auctions.

Note: Vivillon (Fancy) and Vivillon (Pokeball) are not part of the account creation assignment and are special event Pokémon.
